Tips For Choosing A Quality Home Security System Company
Kim Proctor of Protective Systems Inc. of Seattle, Washington operates a third-generation family business which provides home and commercial security systems and monitoring services throughout Western Washington.
Years of experience and work with security systems have taught her a few things. She believes consumers looking for a good home security system should consider several things when shopping:
The company they select should pass these criteria:
Google reviews – first thing they should do – people will be amazed at the number of unhappy customers there are out there
Contract – I would not sign one for monitoring services for over one year – read the complaints on web – people can not get out of them.
I would delete an automatic renewal clause – most people can not remember or do not remember the 30 day cancellation notice and then can not get out of the contract for another three years.
At PSI we do not require a monitoring contract – our contract is with the customer to keep them happy – they do need to sign an agreement for potential losses. All insurance companies require that and it really protects the client because now they are suing an insurance company instead of an individual alarm company.
Monitoring Company – Check the number of customers coming into one center, the response time, the percentage of responses in error ( i.e. no response ), the number pf very slow responses, how many times they responded to the wrong event. Get all their stats.
Panel Lock Out – They should not sign up with a company or do so at their own risk that locks out the control panel so another company can not take over the system. It protects the company not the owner.
At PSI we do not lock our our panels – we can afford to do this because we have satisfied customers.
