Top Nine Reasons to Consider a Home Security System

Sure, it sounds like a good idea. Just the name security system says it all – security. But maybe you’ve never gone for a security system because you’re not really sure what you’re protecting against. It’s not just burglary. The dangers we face in our homes – when we’re away and when we’re present are real and more than you might have considered.

So, here are the top nine reasons to consider a security system.

1.    Personal protection. According to data from the United Nations, there were more than 420,000 armed robberies in the United States in 2002. These were people inside their homes – unsuspecting. An alarm system can help you avoid that situation.

2.    Family protection. Do you have one more children who come home from school while you’re at work? Unfortunately, we live in a day and age when unlocked doors – or even locked ones aren’t safe for children alone.

3.    Pet protection. Serious burglars have hurt and even killed pets.

4.    Fire protection. Security systems can interface with your smoke detectors to call for help when you need it – especially when you’re not around.

5.    Medical emergencies. Most security systems come with an emergency medical button. If you have elderly family members or those with acute medical concerns, you can get medical security packages complete with wireless alert buttons. Your loved one can call for help even if he or she is debilitated and alone.

6.    Flooding. The latest security systems can monitor for water and changes in temperature. Rather than coming home to the flood of a burst pipe, broken washing machine hose or leaky roof, your security system can call for help the minute problems begin.

7.    Stalkers. Unfortunately it happens. People become fixated in an unhealthy way and compromise your personal security or that of one of your family members. Add video surveillance to a security system for strong personal protection and premises protection that can even help you enforce a court order.

8.    Child monitoring. Security systems aren’t just about outside threats to children – but also the threats they pose themselves. You can keep an eye on the kids from the next room or when you’re out of the house using in-home video surveillance. Most systems such as ADT’s and Protect America) allow you to access your video feed via the Internet or your PDA.

9.    Burglary. Yes, the original impetus for a home security system still exists. An alarm deters even a determined burglar.
